THE Scottish Government’s Advisory Group on Homelessness and Substance Misuse yesterday published its recommendations for improving housing service provision for people affected by homelessness and drug and alcohol problems.
Its says that mainstream services supporting people affected by homelessness or substance misuse routinely consider the impact of substance misuse and homelessness on the ways in which they provide services.
The Group makes 12 recommendations for actions covering the two key themes of strategic and organisational responses, and service design and delivery.

The Advisory Group was established in November 2005. The new recommendations follow
an international review of evidence for effective services in substance misuse and homelessness commissioned by the Advisory Group and produced in 2008.

Housing, Homelessness and Substance Misuse: developing effective responses – 8 February 2010, Clydebank
On behalf of the Advisory Group, Scottish Drugs Forum organised an event, Housing, Homelessness and Substance Misuse: developing effective responses, on 8 February, which examined the Advisory Group’s recommendations.
It also explored Dutch, Danish and Scottish models for innovative housing responses for people with substance use problems.
