Drug services in Scotland are having to respond to important changes within the policy landscape:
The national drug strategy, The Road to Recovery
Hepatitis C Action Plan Phase II
Review of local drug and alcohol delivery/planning structures
Audit Scotland’s review of expenditure on drug and alcohol services (PDF) - to be published spring 2009.
We have also witnessed the completion of
year-long work by the Scottish Futures Forum (SFF) (PDF) - the parliamentary “think tank” - looking at how to reduce our high levels of drug and alcohol damage.
This year's AGM will bring together SDF membership to discuss how we, as a membership organisation, can respond effectively to the challenges within this new policy landscape.
Discussion at this event will help shape SDF’s Strategic Plan for 2009 - 2012, including specific focus on:
- How SDF engages and supports the recovery movement in key “
essential care” mainstream areas such as housing and employability
- How SDF can assist the future ability of the voluntary sector to deliver effective services within this new environment
- How SDF can assist in strengthening responses to two important health topics: reducing drug-related deaths and addressing the Hepatitis C epidemic.
Speakers are:
Simon Bradstreet,
Scottish Recovery Network
Professor David Goldberg,
Chair of the Hepatitis C Action Plan Co-ordinating Group
Neil Hunter, Joint General Manager,
Glasgow Addiction Services
David Liddell, Director, Scottish Drugs Forum
Mike McCarron, External Consultant to Study Team, Audit Scotland Review on expenditure on drug and alcohol services in Scotland and its effectiveness.
