New ‘bite-size’ courses on motivational interviewing available to book

18th December 2020

Scottish Drugs Forum have launched five new ‘bite size’ courses on motivational interviewing.

Motivational interviewing (MI) is an evidenced based, person-centred counselling style for addressing the common problem of ambivalence about change.

The new additional short courses, which start in March 2021, support the pre-existing SDF training in MI and are designed to continue the professional development in MI practice for individuals who have completed the ‘Introduction to Motivational Interviewing’ course.

The five bite size courses being offered are the following:

These additional courses offer learning opportunities where MI is applied in different contexts. Richard Bloodworth, SDF’s Workforce Development Programme Manager, said:

“We are really excited to launch these courses to help with the professional development of people working within services. The bite-size courses have been designed so that people who have completed the introductory course have the flexibility to build on specific areas of interest within their practice’

“The variety these new short-form courses offer also provides the opportunity to gain skills in MI that can be applied in diverse work situations.”

The courses provide an opportunity to gain knowledge and skills in integrating an MI style; from offering feedback, advice and information, to integrating MI within non-compliance situations when a prescribed plan is in place, as well as translating MI practice into staff support and supervision for managers.

Completion of the SDF ‘Introduction to Motivational Interviewing’ training is a requirement for participating in all the courses. You can find out more about this training by visiting the SDF training site.

Registration is now open and spaces are available for all five courses. Click here to find out more and to register.
