George is currently Head of Public Protection with the Scottish Prison Service at HMP Castle Huntly based 6 miles south of Dundee. Scotland’s only open prison accommodates a capacity of 285 low supervision adult male offenders from any Local Authority area, with the emphasis on careful preparation for release.
He has over 28 years’ experience working with the Scottish Prison Service across a range of establishments and roles. As part of his previous role within HMP Edinburgh he was responsible for the expansion of Recovery services, which saw the development of several peer led initiatives including the Take Home Naloxone programme and Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART). He has worked with a wide range of third sector organisations as well as statutory services to improve addictions services for those individuals within prisons.
